The Salewa Alp Trainer 2 Mid GTX Boot – Technology GORE-TEX® Buffeted by gale force winds, hit by horizontal rain. By the time we reach the arête, we’re completely exposed to the elements. Reliable waterproof, windproof and breathable clothing is part of every mountaineer’s basic equipment – and not just in the mountains. Gore developed its first jacket over 40 years ago. Gore-Tex® fabrics offer long-lasting, comfortable weather protection. The technology is based on an extremely thin membrane made of expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE). Its pores are too small for rain to penetrate, yet big enough for perspiration to pass right through. Gore-Tex® products have a high waterproof rating (water column) and can withstand up to 28,000 mm of water pressure – more than monsoon rain. The membrane is bonded between an outer fabric and a high-performance lining. Depending on the construction, the result is either a 2-layer, 2.5-layer or 3-layer laminate. Gore-Tex® in a 3-layer construction offers a combination of enhanced durability and high breathability, while the 2-layer laminate provides lightweight weather protection. SALEWA® makes jackets and pants for mountaineers from a number of different Gore-Tex® laminates. Benefits of Gore-tex
  • durably waterproof and windproof
  • highly breathable
  • robust and durable
  • very lightweight
  • small pack size
  • comprehensive all-round weather protection
  • high comfort
HOW TO CLEAN GORE-TEX® FOOTWEAR? WASH Before washing your SALEWA® shoes, be sure to follow the garment SALEWA®’s instructions to ensure the best result. Clean the exterior of your SALEWA®’s shoes with a cloth or brush and lukewarm water. Do not use chlorine bleach as it may damage your footwear. Shake out sand, gravel and dirt from inside the footwear. To ensure a complete cleaning, remove and shake out the foot bed too, in order to remove the dirt settled under it. DRY After carefully cleaning your shoes, dry them naturally at moderate temperatures. Be careful not to put boots too close to a direct heat source or in too hot a room as it could damage them. Convection-style boot dryers work well too. WHAT IF MY PRODUCT IS NO LONGER WATER-RESISTANT? SALEWA® engineers products for the needs of passionate mountaineers. We do not only worry about producing progressive pieces of clothing but we want to make them last. Unfortunately, time, dirt, and even regular wear can all inhibit a garment’s ability to repel water, leaving you wet, cold and uncomfortable. All water-repellent clothing and equipment needs regular maintenance if it has to continue working at its best. Washing them regularly with special products can help, but even the cleanest fabric will eventually need a fresh water-repellent treatment. Granger’s Performance Repel is a high performance spray-on product designed to restore the water-repellent finish found on all outdoor and technical clothing that does not require a washing machine – or heat activation. Based on a fluorocarbon-free technology, Granger’s Performance Repel restores the water-repellent finish to your jackets and trousers, leaving you fully protected outdoors. Ideally applied to damp garments, this product sprays on easily and provides maximum protection. The spray is perfect for use on all outdoor and technical fabrics, and is perfect for restoring the water-repellent finishes found on all GORE-TEX® garments. Moreover, it is Bluesign Certified Environmentally Friendly and it does not add any scent or optical brighteners to the products. Footwear is often the most hardworking element of any outdoor kit – and it needs to be regularly maintained as a result. Unfortunately, the mud, muck, dirt, and dust acquired during an adventure or hike can have a detrimental effect on your footwear’s performance, and while cleaning your boots might help, even the most rugged pair of shoes will eventually need a fresh water-repellent treatment. Granger’s Footwear Repel has been designed to help prolong the life of your boots by restoring their water-repellent finish and protecting them from rain, stains, and spillages. Safe to use on all types of footwear – including those made from leather, suede, nubuck, and fabric – this product protects without adversely affecting the breathability of shoes or boots. Granger’s Footwear Repel is suitable for use on all types of footwear, and is perfect for restoring the water-repellent finish found on boots with GORE-TEX® membranes. About Salewa As a technical mountain brand based in the heart of the Dolomites, SALEWA® has a proven pedigree of engineering reliable, strong and light footwear for mountaineering, trekking, speed hiking, and technical approaches. All our boots and shoes are designed for comfort, stability, grip and durability. The SALEWA® research & development team in Montebelluna – the small city in northern Italy that is the world’s leading design centre for outdoor footwear – has introduced a number of important, innovative technologies over the years, from our 100% blister-free fit to our trademark 3F system for flexibility and support and the flex collar. SALEWA® men’s boots and shoes are available in a range of different upper fabrics from high-quality Italian Perwanger suede leather to lightweight and robust breathable mesh fabrics. We also line our footwear with durably waterproof and breathable GORE-TEX® membranes and performance OrthoLite insoles for cushioning and moisture management. Equipped with outsoles from leading sole technology experts Vibram®, Michelin® and Pomoca, SALEWA® footwear uses different rubber compounds and activity-specific profiles, to cover all mountain disciplines. Our footwear is known for its outstanding grip, traction and stability, sure-footedness and climbing precision. The Salewa story started on July 8 1935, when Josef Liebhart, the director of Munich´s cooperative for saddlers and tapestry handlers registered a sister corporation for saddler and leather wares: sa (sattler / saddler) le (leder / leather) wa (waren / wares). Salewa developed the unique Andes backpack and supported the Andes expedition of Hermann Huber, who was to become the managing director of Salewa. The monetary reform on June 21st 1948 marked a new beginning for Salewa and West Germany. For some years, photobags, produced for agfa, were the major sales item. Besides backpacks, soccer balls (made from leather) and tank bags for motorbikes were part of the portfolio. ski poles (made from the wood of hazelnut trees) eventually became the major sales item. The development and production of the fully adjustable Salewa classic light crampon set new standards and became one of Salewa´s most successful products to date. Salewa gained international recognition as a leader in alpine innovation with its invention of the tubular ice screw, which today is an industry standard. In a strong collaboration with Reinhold Messner and Kurt Albert, numerous new ideas were tested on expeditions. Siegfried Messner suffered a fatal accident caused by lightning on the Stabelerturm. Salewa was acquired by Heiner Oberrauch and his Oberalp group and the headquarters were moved to Bolzano.
